The White 1 and the White 2 |

Today 17-4-2010 the white leopoldi died. The cause of death is never 100 % sure but the most reliable course is blood poisoning during pregnancy. Yesterday we tried with a vet to do some research she was acting strange a few days. At the moment of research she aborted 3 very small pups ( about 2 cm) . She had already all kind of bleu markings. She was injected with some antibiotic but it was to late.
We have lost a truly unique animal, not only in our collection but also in the ray world, one of a kind. We enjoyed taking care and watching her, she will be missed.

I'm proud to present to you Potamotrygon Leopoldi sp "Ingeborg". We got this animal almost 4 years now and the first pups have been born and the look stunning will show pictures soon off course the pups where all female ( and you want a male for breeding purposes ). It's a misunderstanding that this female will produce white pups. The males will carry the gene that is necessary to breed white pups. That's why the males are the most interesting in this stage of the breeding program. This is a one of a kind animal. As you can read in the White 2 chapter of this site we have know also breeded a pearl ray in this color. Breeded is not the wright word in this context it appeared in a batch with perfect normal looking pearl pups.

The eyes of this animal have a yellow / orange color and are marvelous to look at. This also shows it is not a albino ray, then the eyes would be red of color. This is what we call an lutino (is this correct English?). The animal is very active and eats very well. |
| A close-up of the spots. Take a look at a normal Leopoldie, you will see the spots are exactly the same. The skin color is a little bit pink I'm curious if this will change in pure white. A normal Leo also changes in a about a year from brown till dark black. This animal is wild caught and I estimate that it is 6 months old. |

I will be following this animal in the future to see how it matures and also the breeding program. Below a lot of pictures from the first day we saw this animal and the transport home. Take a special attention to the pictures with the Pearl and the Motoro to show you how white she is.
The animal has grown very fast in the last three and a half months. Now ( 08-01-2006 ) she has a real fat behind. The spots and the white is more intense. She has grown from 6" to 9" in this time. This shows what good food can do. These pictures were made by Petra Boom.
It is now 15-10-2006. The Ingeborg leo is a few months older again and the last time she was 9". Today we measured here and she is now 12,5 ". So she is growing fast. You see what good food can do with a fish. Hope you enjoy the new pictures.
21-06-2009 The first pups have been born yesterday and lucky for us it where all males .These males are carrying the white gene. So breeding them with any other Leopoldi gives 25% change of getting a white animal. So with the berth of these 4 males the gene is secured for future breeding. First the picture of mum and dad and then the siblings.
Mike Miranda in the US is the proud owner of the magnificent animal shown below. As the white leo this is a one of a kind animal amazing
houwen.
Frenchman breeding a white motoro.
After the successful color morph breeding by us, we were very excited to
hear the French have succeeded in breeding a white stingray as well. Our friend
mr. le Thomas found a fantastic white P. motoro in his aquarium about 3 months
ago. So we stepped in the car and made the trip to bring you some exclusive
photos of this superb animal.
Three years ago, mr. le Thomas bought a couple P. motoro from a friend.
They were placed in a 600L (150 G) aquarium where they still live at the moment
of writing. Five months ago, movement was finally seen in the back of the
female. As this was the first time his rays were pregnant, mr. le Thomas was
obviously super excited. Even greater was his excitement when a pure white pup
came out. The parents produced a nest of 2 pups, male and female of which one
was white as a snow. As the parents are brother and sister, the white coloration
is probably recessive.
As mr. le Thomas already planned a holiday trip, he had to leave the
young female ray in the hands of his parents. As you can imagine those weeks
were not the laid back holidays one would expect as the health of the young ray
kept mr. le Thomas busy. Luckily his parents did a great job and all the rays
did very well in his absence. Now the little ray is part of the family and taken
care of as a little child.
As you can see below, we surely understand where this loving affection
comes from.
Beneath you see a schedule which is the breeding program with the white female. Their are 2 possibilities a Ino line bound and Ino recessive. Split in the schedule beneath means that the fish is wild color but has the white gen in it's gene. So a natural color split will produce white pups. In which schedule she will fall nobody knows, only the future will tell. We believe it will be the line bound schedule.
