Food for rays

To get big and healthy rays you need a good and balanced diet. It's also important to give a variety of food to the animals. This is important so we don't have to rely on one product. And also we like a variety of different food why should rays be different.

Today 26-09-2004 I filmed my rays when feeding I hope you will enjoy this movies. The food are mussels and a special ray food which I made with a friend of mine.

Young rays

The most important thing with freshly imported rays is to get them eating. These animals, specially imports from Basil, are known to be very skinny. A guaranteed success will be tubifex worms. These are highly nutritious. So when you get a freshly imported ray make sure you get a few portions of this food. Another good food for young imports are earth worms. For very small specimens, you can chop them in smaller pieces. When the freshly imported rays are used to this food you can give them the same as the big rays only in smaller pieces.

Tubifex worms

Very nutritious food for all ray sizes. I give mine every week a nice portion of these little worms. They love it. It is a high protein food they gain wait fast with these worms.

Earthworms

Every good bait shop sells them and are relatively cheap. Rays are crazy on earth worms also a highly protein food. For smaller rays you can chop the worms in little pieces. One time a month I inject vitamins in the worms and then feed them. I hand feed each worm, so I know that every ray gets his vitamins.

Shrimps

This is a food they don't take right away they have to learn to love it, but when they do they take it without hesitations. I give the shrimp complete. These are small shrimps. I've heard that our American friends give big shrimps. They are very expensive in Europe. We rather eat the big shrimps ourselves. I've seen a Motoro who was eating a lot of shrimp change his spot colors from yellow to orange.

Smelt

This is a food, I feed almost every day mixed with mussels or kokkels.Very nutritious and high protein. It's a food they have to learn eating (they don't like it right away) but when they do they love it.

Red Blood worms.

When I had my Leopoldies they absolutely refused to eat frozen bloodworms, they only eat it fresh. It is a cheap and healthy food. Remember, when feeding life that all the worms get eaten, if not you have a room full of mosquitoes after a few days.

Mussels

Good food for adult rays they love it. Also good food for L numbers and cychlids. When given to little rays chop in little pieces.

Kokkels

Is the same as mussels only smaller and more expensive.
