Chipping

To track our animals we have decided to chip our animals. This means that all the animals breaded by us, out animals passing threw our hands will be chipped. Only the very small animals will not be chipped by us.

Because our hobby is still very young we have the unique opportunity to do this. This way we can track and register our animals. We can try to prevent breeding animals which are related to each other. And to keep the lines healthy this way. Another advantage is we can track our animals a get some history of these animals. I hope you understand that this is a lot of work, but I will try to keep the information as reliable as possible. In the future I will try to build a real database, for the time being it will be on this web site. Of course new input or changes have to be reported to me, so I can change this info when necessary.

The chipping.

To chip the animals and give them as less stress as needed we sedate the animals. We place the animals in a small container filled with their aquarium water and a drug which makes them sleep. We insert the needle on the base of the tail and inject the chip. Then we remove the needle and check the chip again. Needles to say you check the chip with the scanner before you inject it. Then we put the animal back in the tank. After a few seconds is getting out of its sleep and we have seen regularly, that they start eating after a few minutes.

A chip is a small glass tube with small reel in it ( is this the correct word?). The chip is approximately 0.4 inch long and 0.06 inch thick. These chippes are inside the needle at delivery. You only have to get them out of the package and put it on a syringe. The needle is put under the rays skin and the chip is injected in the animal. We can read the chip number with a special scanner.

The data of the animals we be filled out on the forms which are visible in the temporary database on the button below. I will try to keep them up to date as good as possible. In the future some things will change till we have found the write format.
