After keeping freshwater stingrays for a few years, and experimenting with all other kinds of fishes, I fall in love with the Asian arowana. In my opinion the most beautiful fish in the world (after stingrays off course ). And although most of these fishes are not from South America the combination with stingrays is wonderful. I'm not an expert on these fish, but I will tell you what I know. The biggest experts of these fish are people from Asia who have kept and breeded these animals for years, the experience they have is huge and only comes after years of learning and watching these fish.
All pictures on this web site are from me ( Frank Zijlmans ) or from my good friend from Taiwan Nathan Chiang .
We can roughly determine 3 groups of these fish.
1 South America - Osteoglossum Bicirrhosum ( Silver Arowana ) Amazon basin, Brazil.
- Osteoglossum Ferreirai ( Black Arowana ) Rio Negro , Brazil .
2 Australia - Scleropages Leichardti Queensland, Australia.
- Scleropages Jardinii Cape York, Australia
3 Asia - Scleropages Formosus In the wild they live in Indonesia and Malaysia, and also being breeded in these countries as well as in Singapore.
4 Afrika -Heterotis niloticus. Species from afrika.
This web site is dedicated to this last group of arowana's. The most colorful of them all
