In Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore the different kind of arowana are breed in all kinds of variations. People are always look for new colours and forms.
Arowana's are being breeded in mud pools, big ponds with muddy water. Every few weeks the fish are caught and checked, if the male has eggs in his mouth. When this is the case the male will be caught and put in a tank. Now the breeders can keep an eye on the animal and see when the time is wright to empty the mouth of the male. The embryos are put in a separate small tank. They live all this time on their yolk sack. Finally the yolk sack will get smaller and the little fish will swim in the tank and being fed small food. Good food is important to get very nice adult fish.
As a male fish has eggs in his mouth, the male gets separated from the pond, and put in a aquarium so the breeders can keep a clear view on the animal. Other farms take out the eggs or larva and put them in special tanks to hatch the eggs. On the pictures below you see a male fish with eggs in his mouth, and small embryo fish and very young fish who just lost their yolk sack. I took these pictures on different arowana farms in Singapore.
